Consider this example: A 42 year old GS-11 Step 2 with an annual salary of $42,071 resulting in $45,000 of basic FEGLI coverage, at a cost of $181 per year. For approximately the same money, $168 per year, WAEPA would provide $150,000 of coverage, more than three times the basic FEGLI coverage. If the civilian federal employee wanted to keep the same approximate amount of insurance, $50,000 of coverage could be obtained from WAEPA at a cost of $56 per year, a savings of $125 per year.
